I have seen this too on Ubuntu 9.04 with virtualbox-ose version 2.1.4

For what it's worth, I've also found that if I simply click anywhere
inside the Ubuntu desktop (outside of the vbox window) and type a key,
then click back to the vbox, typing works ok. I don't need t
