I can confirm lovinglinux comment. Just dist-upgraded Karmic today, KDE
restart and all my python based plasmoid are gone. Please fix it before
release, thanks!

I'm seeing the exact same issue with python plasmoids on this new karmic
install. My other system, where I upgraded from a previous version of
Kubuntu is working fine. :\
Installing the python-dev and (jaunty) python-plasma package on the new
system does not resolve the problem for me.

karmic. maybe it just needs to be repackaged for karmic?

Problem still there with RC3 on Karmic.
It seems there has been a similar problem earlier, namely LP 332145, for which
the fix was to install python-dev. But that doesn't seem to be the case now.

By the way, perhaps this is a matter of updating the plasmoids? In
either case, creating a symlink here sovles the problem:
sudo ln -s /usr/lib/pymodules/python2.6/PyKDE4/plasmascript.py

The problem was solved for me when I upgraded to KDE 4.3 RC2.
At default (install only KDE) it shows the error, but for goes to work I
install additional package 'python-plasma' and the python plasmoids goes
to work!!
But why plasma-scriptengine-python package didn't require 'python-
