Public bug reported:

this is related to a bug i reported a while back here. #372453 crashing
processes dont let go of webcam. i have since found out the trouble
apparently goes deeper.

this time i was using a joystick in dosbox every thing goes well until
dosbox crashes and i have to manually kill it. the window goes away and
all seems well until i try to reload dosbox. which decides to not want
to. fee;ling suspcisiously like my usb webcam problem i run jscalibrator
to test if the joystick will give any input no go. i have since tried
cat /dev/input/js0 and jstest none of them give any input. as with the
webcam problem the module refuses to modprobe -r the process is listed
as defunct and nothing else can use the usb device.

to reproduce the bug, thus far found in only usb webcam and joysticks but
i suspect it is any non flashdisk usb device.

!) plug in your usb webcam, joystick whathave you
2) run a programme which uses such a device
3) cause programme to crash, if it doesnt crash of it's own accord
4) try and use the same usb device with another programme, or run the previous
programme again
