Does removing your ~/.config/vlc folder help as well?
It seems you have somehow managed to currupt your configuration
settings.

Hi,
after using vlc for more than one and a half year it did not start.
I just clicked on icon and nothing happen. So I have decided
to start it from command line with following result:
