the description is still not really clear to me, you describe having to
enter information twice, then gconf issues then compiz issues, could you
describe what you do exactly, what errors you get and what else you
would expect?

every time I reboot I have to enter login information twice, gdm
overrides my selected window manager with metacity, etc.
