In my case lxterminal also died silently. Strace showed that it was due to a stale socet that for me had become read only. I solved it by removing the socet: sudo rm /tmp/.lxterminal-socket:0.0-* In Your case there is also a socet that has a very strange name: getpeername(3, {sa_family=AF_FIL
