i had the same problem after a while of using ubuntu 9.10 i could nt get into
my second hdd.
after i install storage device manager and i did what this guy migselv said
then it was fix.

I experienced the same issue - it worked all the time under 9.04 and
9.10, and suddenly started. However, for me it helped to run the storage
device manager, and used the 'assistant'-function to allow any user to
mount and unmount the disk. This immediately solved my problem. Hope

Deleting the entity about /dev/sdb1 from /etc/fstab seamed to do the
job. The bug might occur due to the fstab assuing that the device
connected (sdb1) should be in NTFS format, while In my case the ipod
isn't... I don't know why fstab assumes so, cause I surely didn't type
it in myself. So I assum
