Some weeks (and kernels) later, I still consider this fixed, my Eee PC
is cool'n'quiet now :) Anyone still having this problem?

IMHO this bug should be set to Importance: High because that would
mean that Ubuntu can destroy your EEE PCs.

I am now at 2.6.31-9 (-7 and -8 were well,too), and the cooling seems to
be fine now: At ca. 59°C, the fan starts running at a very slow speed.
This seems to be sufficient, I never saw it going beyond 65°C.
If noone else has any problems, it seems the bug is fixed.

Since 2.6.31-4, my fan works again. (Although not very well. After ca.
59°C is tripped, the fan starts at full speed, and does no longer return
to lower speeds when the temperature sinks again).

No such luck here - even after reaching 62°C, the fan is not starting.
Still nothing in /proc/acpi/fan - this is on 2.6.31-4-generic (allthough

I, too, see this on my Eee PC 900. Since I upgraded from 9.04 to karmic,
my fan didn't start once. I also found no way via /proc or /sys to
enable it.
Please increase Importance, as this may actually damage hardware.
