I can't reproduce this behavior anymore. I installed
1:2.1.0~svn981319beta1-1 (from the Debian repository) in an attempt to
fix the issue with missing and forgotten shortcuts, and this issue is
now gone.

Does it always happen or only in directories with uncommon permissions?
If you know how to use a compiler you might try to use kile 2.1 beta1 from
kile.sf.net and see if it fixes the problem.
Although the backtrace is good I don't see anything obvious offending in the
code.

I went back through the list of KDE programs in Synaptic and installed
all the debug packages that I thought might be useful. Then I tried
this again, and got a (hopefully) more useful output.
