The inputattach source in Debian (shipped in the joystick package as you
noticed) is newer than that shipped in Ubuntu; the Debian version
probably fixes all the bugs filed against inputattach in Ubuntu apart
from LP#29.
You might want to wait a couple of days before continuing on this, a new
