So I tried this updated gstreamer PPA for karmic, and it works very well

The bug that RichB originally reported seems to be fixed. As for the
uncompressed audio bug, it was fixed upstream in gstreamer0.10-plugins-
bad 10.16, so DVD's with uncompressed audio should work in Totem in
Lucid. If anyone else experiencing that problem can test Lucid, it would
be appreciated (I
Does not work for me as well - the dvd has uncompressed LPCM stream. It is DVD
made by local video service company (weddings, etc.)
VLC, gxine, gmplayer play it just fine.

I am having the same problem with a DVD with pcm audio track.
Other players play it fine. mplayer says:
audio stream: 0 format: lpcm (stereo) language: it aid: 160.
number of audio channels on disk: 1.
Opening audio decoder: [dvdpcm] Uncompressed DVD/VOB LPCM audio decoder
AUD
And same problem here. Newly installed 9.10 and the DVD sound won't play
with Totem (it'll play fine with VLC for example)

confirmed on karmic 32bit as well. I'm running a clean installed version
(not live CD) and updated. Same results: no sound playing the dvd but if
I run the vob file from nautilus sound works.
Why is this still marked new? Hasn't it been verified twice over now?

Yes, it's a DVD of music videos and and I think it uses uncompressed PCM
audio, so that would explain it. Thanks.

I'm also having this issue with karmic. I'll note that I'm using the
OSS4 gstreamer backend/sink, but that shouldn't be an issue (in theory),

CD and used it to boot my computer, the same machine that the problem

Initially, I thought karmic was another video player but after doing
some searching, I see it is ubuntu 9.10. So now I believe you are asking
me to try DVD playback on a 9.10 installation, correct? Would running
from a live CD tell us what we want to know? Sorry if this is a dumb
