The bug has been solved and patched in V2.6.37-rc1. An ubuntu kernel has just been built. Goto http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/ and download v2.6.37-rc1-maverick/. I have installed this on my eeepc900 and it works. Haven't discovered any new issues yet. Thanks all contributors!

Has anyone tried to use the start gconf-editor in a terminal for manual settings of the gnome-power-manager/thresholds as a workaround? Maybe you can do a manual setting for percentage_critical (don't know if it's really the right key) to 0? This should prevent shutdown if a wrong battery
