Ah, all clear now. This bug was fixed yesterday in ubiquity 1.99.2, but
that isn't on the current images yet:

Can you please attach /etc/gdm/custom.conf from that installation? I
suppose it has something like "AutomaticLogin=ubuntu"? That was recently
fixed in ubiquity and user-setup, but we might have missed it somewhere
else.
