Status:
for me this only happens when as user I invoke gedit using
nautilusopen with ,and try to open files I don't own eg
/etc/apt/sources.list . If I invoke gedit from term as user it will
open that file without errors or crashing .

Nautilus (root) also crashed right after this but the reporting agent
was also broken when I went back to do that one.
