The memory looks fine, of course while you are actually saving it
shooting up to 100% cpu usage is to be expected, but it shouldn't stay
at that afterwards.

Hi Chris,
Here's a copy of what I got when I ran "free -m" while the xls document
was open in OO calc:
total used free sharedbuffers cached
Mem: 2009 1993 16 0 72 1037
-/+ buffers/cache:883 1126
Swap: 5820 0
You could try running 'free -m' in a terminal while you have the
document opened and see how much free memory it thinks you have. The
below is an example of my machine, the third line shows the amount of
used and free for regular usage, so on my laptop at the moment I have
1016MB used and 2840MB fr
Thanks for replying, Chris.

Loading the file is no problem now with OO 3.2 and Ubuntu 10.04. However
it still crashes when I try to save any amendments.

How much ram do you have in your system?
The example opens very slowly on one of my VMs that only has 512MB ram.
After loading the file I looked and OOo was taking 1.1GB of ram.
Attempting to save in the VM causes it to crash. I probably managed to
run my VM out of even swap space causing it to cr

I've now loaded Ubuntu 9.10. The problem remains the same. Calc is slow

Hi Chris,
Any luck getting my big file to load and save quicker? I've since split the
file in two with five and eight sheets in the two files and saved in ods
format. The first file still takes some time to load and save and uses 100% of
my 2.60GHz CPU.
