This is not an error. There is no browser without a tab in it at this point.
That may be a feature in the future, but when you close the last tab, it's like
closing the window. Also, as I said, this worked the same way in Firefox 3.0.
Addons are free to modify functionality. My guess is
It seems a bit odd to change an established behaviour to the worse and
then point to additional software to cure it.
To close Firefox with only one tab open I now have the following
options:
CTRL-W
CTRL-Shift-W
CTRL-Q
ALT-F4
ALT-F-Q
ALT-F-C
ALT-F-d
use mouse to click on the window bar close
This is the correct behavior and I have confirmed with the Firefox
people. I was told that Tab Mix Plus has options to override. Thank
you and please report any other bugs you may find.

[ubuntu karmic] firefox
Thank you for reporting this to Ubuntu. This has been the standard
behavior of Firefox since I can remember. If you close the last tab,
there is nothing left for Firefox to keep open. Do you remember which
build had it not working like that?
** Package changed: firefox (Ubuntu) = firefox-3.5
Hmmm, did you really use that feature before in ff? Because it had actually
never been this way. The first time this comes up is in the 3.5 series. I tried
those installations:
WinXP with ff 3.0.13
intrepid with ff 3.0.11 ... canonical 1.0
intrepid with ff 3.0.13 ... canoncial 1.0
karmic-alpha4
** Attachment added: ff3.5 with only one tab open
