The ATI restricted driver does not compile with these newer kernels (2.6.32,
.33, .34), but I will try them without the ATI driver.
That would be another change besides the kernel, so I'm not sure how relevant
will this test be.

If you could also please test the latest upstream kernel available that
would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine
the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds .
Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-
upstream-t
iotop -qqqotk seems to suggest X generating the most I/O traffic.
