Could you run it from the command line until it crashes and copy any
messages?
You run tuxpaint from the command line by typing tuxpaint.

When run tuxpaint from the desktop menu, it crashes after a few moments.
I was using the foam magic tool.
Here are some specifics of my machine:
virtual box 3.0.6 r52128
