Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: hal

sandisk sansa e240 is not recognised. It does not show up in places>computer ,
it does not show up when lsusb is run in a terminal . It does work with my
jaunty install on the same box . If I unplug the sansa and plug in a usbstick,
that then shows up as the sansa , the usb stick can be mounted and read but
still shows up identified as the sansa . unpluging the usbstick and plugging
the sansa in does not allow the sansa to be seen .
ubuntu 9.10 installed from daily live (amd64) of aug 21 and upto date as of aug
23 AM US east coast .

** Affects: hal (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
