I'm still having this problem. I deleted all the .gtk* files on my
machine as well as installing openoffice-kde. No help. This is very
annoying.

I just tried Frank Herberg's suggestion of moving the .gtk* files
temporarily to a subfolder I created. Restarted OO and it appears to be
fixed. Also, so far no problems with Firefox or Thunderbird. Looking at
the dates of the files I moved they may have been remnants of a previous
installed releas
The workaround I have is not booting in Xgl but in Xorg. So, when your
computer starts, ctrl + F1, there you have to log in. then type
sudo etc/init.d/gsm.multi-save stop
or sudo killall -9 gdm
then type
startx
But be carefull you start the right x-org session. Disadvantage by not
starting throu
I notice that there has been no updates on this problem since
2007-10-09. I, too, am experiencing this bug. Very frustrating as I am
trying to get people to convert to Linux (k)ubuntu. I tell them that
Open Office works on their MS Office docs so they can convert. But now
this is a MAJOR stumbling
