I also had this issue with Ubuntu 9.10 x64, the internal display is
killed. Whenever I try to boot up the Ubuntu partition it displays
screen sequences of red, blue, green, white and colored grey scale
lines. An external display works fine however.

Just tried this:
1. Switched off machine.
2. Disconnected AC power and removed the battery.
3. Pressed On/Off switch for 5 seconds.
4. Put in battery, re-connected AC power.
5. Pressed On/Off in order to restart machine.

starting up until the startup could be heard a second time - no effect.
