I only encounter this problem when I use certain themes such as
MurrinaCrystal (other Murrina ones as well).

I'm running a freshly installed Xubuntu 11.04 and am encountering the
same problem. However, there's a fix. Apparently it's a bug in the
Aurora engine. Add the following to ~/.gtkrc-2.0 to fix it:
