I think this is a problem with power-guidance-applet or the powersaving
settings anyway, but I could not find it in the list of packages.
This is a laptop (an Acer Travlemate 6492 to be precise) and when I use
it while it's plugged into a charge, the default powersaving settings
are "performance".
I often change the brightness of my screen, usually I set it to the lowest
setting available, which works very well.
However the powersaving options don't respect these personal settings.
According to the profile after 10minutes of inactivity the screen should
be dimmed. However it does not lower the actual brightness (which it
can't as I have set it to lowest already), but actually brightens the
screen, by setting it to the second highest brightness. (which would be
dimming, if I was using the highest brightness, but I don't)
When I start using the PC again, the powersaving options set the
brightness back to the highest available, instead of the custom one, I
chose earlier.
I would expect the powersaving to really "dim" the screen after 10 minutes of
inactivity or do nothing, if that is impossible instead of making it brighter.
And I would expect the powersaving settings to remember and respect my modified
brightness settings once I start using my PC again.
(I'm having trouble explaining this, so if anything is unclear, please
ask)
I'm using Kubuntu Jaunty with KDE 4.2.4 and right now the 28.15 kernel. (the
problem also existed with the 28.14 kernel)
I only recently switched back from the 2.6.30 kernel, because of regressions,
so I can not say if that problem has always been present, or only appeared
recently.
