I confirm this bug on daily live amd64 20091215 (yesterday). My
computer froze upon booting live as well as selecting the option to
install at the boot menu. I also selected both options in safe graphics

With today iso live build :
ubuntu amd64 - bug confirmed
xubuntu amd64 - no problem
So I suspect Xsplash or compiz to ask xorg to do something special
that's freezing the system

Although for me I get to the xsplash x I am assuming crashes and it drop
back to trying to log in and you get the xsplash screen again and this
just keeps happening. I will try and delve into the log files but the
system seem to lock up if I hit a-c-F1/2/3/4/5/6.

I've been experiencing this as well. I've marked the bug I filed as a
duplicate of this one (sorry, I used the wrong keywords at first and did
not come across this bug).
Basically I installed from the alpha 3 cd and upgraded to alpha 4. I
experienced this bug. I tried removing xsplash from the
Bryce sorry apport-collect was that useful :(
Steps to reproduce:
1 get the latest cd
2 boot from it on a machine with an ati card in.
There doesn't appear to be a crash in /var/crash.
I am attaching my lspci --vvnn and Xorg.0.log and syslog(in case there
is anything of interest there)
