I removed the printer. Updated to 2.4.2-1. It showed up under the
detected printers, installs fine and printing a test page also works.

It doesn't work here. Purged the package, reinstalled the 2.4.1-2 -
version and it doesn't show up in the detected printers ...

May be the shortest way to manage this problem is to extract the file
saving part from the whole process to a save file helper, then make
only this being setuid root and well secured by going setuid to the
final user as soon as it starts. Just my 2¢...
