Binary package hint: network-manager

/etc/init.d/Networkmanager should check to see if the machine is booting
via NFS before running and killing the existing network connection,
which causes the machine running via NFS to freeze.

I'd suggest checking for root=/dev/nfs in /proc/cmdline, or better yet
would be to check /proc/mounts for a line showing / to be mounted via
nfs. I would not trust /etc/mtab, that may show something different if
the NFS share is read only.
