Once you add the line you need to update the packages list and then
upgrade any packages it finds are out of date. Then when you run OOo it
should show that it is version 3.1 on the splash screen and in the
Help-About OpenOffice.org window it should show OpenOffice.org 3.1.1.

I would need some help definitively to check this.
I tried adding the line to my sources
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/openoffice-pkgs/ppa/ubuntu jaunty main
but how do I check whether it is now installed? What is it called in
Synaptic Package Manager?
Anyway, I notice no difference so far.
Do you still have this issue with the new version in Ubuntu 9.04 with
the ppa at https://launchpad.net/~openoffice-pkgs/+archive/ppa or Ubuntu
Karmic?
