Hi isecore,
This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in
it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try
with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are
available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .
If it remains an issue,

Depends where the sound distortion appears. If it's for multichannel
non-stereo, e.g., 5.1, then try PULSE_NO_SIMD=1. If it's for ALSA apps
that are being routed through PA via the pcm plugin, that's a known
bug. There are also hardware bugs that *might* be able to be worked
around in linux, etc.

I have seen a bug fitting these symptoms on 2 Kubuntu Linux installs
with fairly different hardware configurations. Seems like this could
be a widespread problem?
