Public bug reported: Hi there, I just just downloaded the Karmic alpha 5 today (desktop cd) to do some testing and to see if i could help find bugs. I booted to the livecd version of Ubuntu inside virtualbox (running on my current Jaunty install). Once the system had fully booted i double-clicked the install icon on the desktop and went through the various steps to install. When i got to the 'Who are you' screen i filled it out and clicked next, but i notices int he last second that extra information was actually outside the visible frame of the window (i had to scroll down to see it). I easily missed it the first time, and i imagine most other users (especially novices) would too.
Release of Ubuntu being used: Karmic 9.10 alpha 5 What you expected to happen: I expected all the information to be displayed on the screen at once, or on another screen displayed at the next step of the install. What happened instead: I had to scroll to see the rest of the options i was supposed to fill out. The reason i filed this as a bug is because if you look at the installer as i am, there are no clues there is any more information at the bottom of the current page, apart from the scroll bar. And imho a scroll bar is very uncharacteristic for an installer window (unless you're talking about within a textbox), especially for windows users. Having to scroll the entire window to show all the information is probably one of the worst solutions from a usability perspective. Moving the controls around so they all fit on one pane, or relocating some to another screen of the installer would make things much clearer. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- karmic installer 'who are you screen' cluttered https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/426132 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
