Seems to be fixed in Edgy.
Resuming works for me with a recent version (2006-10-12) of Ubuntu Edgy
with a default configuration. Even a second suspend works.

For me the same:
running
$acpi
gives no output, but I have no acpi/battery-related errors in dmesg...
I've also noticed the hang on the second suspend after cold boot.
