Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: mountall

Cannot boot my laptop after updates. Running karmic 9.10. Starts
booting, then i get init:mountall main process (1164) terminated with
status 1 then drops to root shell.

I looked at /etc/init/mountall.conf so tried running exec mountall --daemon,
output:
mountall start/spawned, process 1190
init: mountall main process (1192) terminated with status 1
rm: cannot remove '/forcefsck': Read-only file system
init: mountall post-stop process (1193) terminated with status 1
General error mounting filesystems

my fstab:
# /etc/fstab: static file system information.
#
# Use 'blkid -o value -s UUID' to print the universally unique identifier
# for a device; this may be used with UUID= as a more robust way to name
# devices that works even if disks are added and removed. See fstab(5).
