Public bug reported: This might be a duplicate of https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source /alsa-driver/+bug/421047 but I don't have enough informations to be sure...
Sound was working fine in Jaunty. I updated to Karmic around Alpha 3, and sound stopped working until I changed permissions for using audio. Then a few updates later, it stopped working again and I'm still in the same situation. Interesting thing to note: the sound preference applet show no sound card into the hardware list and I don't have any sound with the default config, i.e. in apps where I can't change the audio output. But I can have sound with SMPlayer if I set the output to "alsa (0.0 - HDA Intel)" (default "alsa" doesn't work) and with VLC with any alsa output ("HDA Intel: ALC861-VD Analog (hw:0,0)" or "HDA Intel: Si3054 Modem (hw:0,6)") specified. Again, the default alsa output doesn't work.
