More info - exited Firefox and then stuff released in the log and sound
started working. I wonder if it is something there - like Flash player
or if it just happened to be the thing running when it died. I'll keep
checking.

Reply to Daniel's email: I'm not really doing anything when it locks up.
It seems to be random, or it could be after Lotus Notes plays an alert
sound. Or maybe Firefox. Or not. I have no idea because the only symptom
is my System Monitor window gets all pretty and full of colors and sound
stops wor
I'm seeing this happen daily in Lucid. Killing pulseaudio via System
Monitor is the only way to stop it. Eventually it respawns and sound
works for a while and then it locks up at 100% CPU again.
Any other news on this issue?

I doubt the cpu-limit change fixed anything; it's only a watchdog in
any case. There seems to be a driver issue at play.

Please try working around this symptom by modify /etc/pulse/daemon.conf:
; cpu-limit = no
should be changed to:
cpu-limit = yes
Then, killall pulseaudio and allow the daemon to autospawn.

Edited bug, as I am experiencing this as well. May be a duplicate of
#428130. I am experiencing this, but on top of this pulseaudio will
produce only static. It seems to only happen with flashplayer outputting
sound. As I also experience static, could it be a combination of this
bug and #301755?
