I am able to connect to my hidden wireless wpa using the daily build
from 092809. This build appears to have solved my issues.

not connecting to wpa is a different bug than "crashing" ... please open
a new one for that.

this version and the one in alpha 6.

with the last version the only difference I can find is a line saying:

update in alpha5. So it could really be the 10th of september commit.

I have the WPA network settings (with hidden SSID) saved (I managed to
connect with the jaunty's 0.7.1rc4).
I've tried the following: downloaded NetworkManager from their git repo,
installed all prerequisites for building, and built and installed the latest
version (Sep 21, with commit d548fc9a6
I also installed the version from jaunty (0.7.1~rc4.1-0ubuntu2) and it works.
The version in karmic is still a development version 0.8~a~git.20080911...
(there was no release after 0.7.1 as far as I see from network-manager, the
latest tag I see in their git repo is 0.7.1).
