I see the problem, your compiz configuration has gotten corrupted somehow. Your plugins list is completely empty. Run the following command then try to start compiz again: gconftool-2 --recursive-unset /apps/compiz That will set your compiz settings back to the defaults and it should all work a

This is the complete output of `dpkg --list | grep compiz` . I am not sure how to change back to metacity from interim. I checked again today and it was the same but all I do is change the settings to NORMAL and it comes back to normal. The settings dont stay at normal because I noticed that after
