Because raise that value means 1) increase power consumption 2) reduce
throughput.
Ubuntu Kernel Team try to provide the most wide, common and useful
configurations but it is very difficult satisfy so many users and every
corner cases.
If you need of 1000 Hz kernel you could help revamp
Can some Ubuntu kernel maintainer explain why the timer frequency is too
low (100hz) in the 64-bit generic kernel?

Oh, you know they wont change it... for these reasons I dump Ubuntu.
The kernel is configured in a very bad way generally.
As of this situation, I bet all other desktop distros set it to 1000hz.

Lucid Beta2 has still 100HZ set on 64bit kernels. I agree with raboof to set it
to 1000HZ for desktop systems as default.
And i suggest also setting CONFIG_PREEMPT=Y for the default standard kernel

This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it
recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the
latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from

Rosegarden but it won't work with a 250HZ timer, needs 1000HZ. I tried
using linux-rt but there is some issue with my Nvidia graphics card and
it won't work. Not everyone can just switch to linux-rt though that is
