I get the same behaviour as in #20.
The update manager lists all updates and when I click "Install" I get a
window that only says "Wating for other tasks". But the update is done
in the background.
Both windows stays open forever, and when I try to close the main window
(no close button on the "W
I manually started update manager; it asked me my password and nothing
appened; downloading windows don't appears, only a small window saying
something like "waiting others applications" (in Italian), details being
grayed; when I attempt to hit "close" btn the app crashed; downloading
continued eve
i use to get this message when using update-manager but when i installed
rsyslog and ubuntu-minimal it seems to have solved it atleast for me.

for me the problem has a temp work around when using sudo apt-get update & sudo
apt-get dist-upgrade

This is very annoying defect - it disables the automatic updates for me,
I had to perform the update manualy using terminal and apt-get.

I got the same error in the update manager while entering the password
(to be more exact while hitting the backspace button to correct my
input). The "password window" then disappeared but the "Update Manager"
window is still opened and disabled!
