Question. Due to the title relating this to karmic, does this report
stand? Or should I report somewhere else if something looks broken in my
Lucid x64?

Hi Florian,
This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it
recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the
latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

I got the same error messages using wodim / karmic while executing this

There was no gnome nor kde nor hal running. The CD content had a wrong
md5sum afterwards. I have repeated this experiment a number of times.
The advice of the previous poster was to use something other than wodim. So I
tried, in the same environment:

If you believe that this is a wodim related problem, replace the broken
cdrkit by original software and test again:
ftp://ftp.berlios.de/pub/cdrecord/alpha/
http://cdrecord.berlios.de/
I however cannot see any test related to wodim in the log.
It may thus be a brasero problem or a bug in
sounds similar to other CD/DVD related I/O problems, like bug 438065

I have the same problem. Burning audio cds or data dvds with ubuntu 9.04
worked well and with latest karmic I can't burn any longer valid audio
cds or data dvds. I have this IOErrors in the logs and burned audio cds
and data dvds aren't mounted.

I investigated a little bit more and found out that if I burn a audio cd
with the option enabled burn the image directly without saving it to
disc which was default in brasero after upgrading to karmic the cd
can't be read. But disabling this option produces now again valid data
cds.

This looks similar to some mount-related issues some guys are reporting
on the forums.
