now kdebase-runtime notify-osd and others provides notification-daemon
which solves this issue, closing the bug on libnotify

VLC brings lots of GNOME depende
This issue cannot fixed in vlc. The solution would be, that libnotify
demotes the notification-daemon to Suggests. Therefore I reassign the
bug report to libnotify.
