This is no longer an issue, as of comment #35.
This laptop is a dual-boot into both Karmic and Lucid, and I've been keeping
Karmic updated every few days and Lucid updated at least daily.
I just re-checked the cardbus slot - a Netgear WG511T is functioning perfectly
in that slot.

I reinstalled Karmic on this system today, and updated it as of about
15:00 PST. The kern.log messages no longer appear, and the cardbus slot
now works (I was able to use a Netgear WG511T card in it).

I just reinstalled Karmic on this system, updating with apt-get. The
cardbus slot still does not work, and the warning messages are still
being appending to kern.log every second.

This system has XFCE as well as Gnome installed - when I start XFCE the
behavior is somewhat different: As before, cards in the cardbus slot
don't work, but the two-per-second messages regarding the cardbus don't
happen.

I am keeping Karmic installed for now, on the hopes that someone will
look at it. This is a dual-boot, system, also I have installed Jaunty
9.04 on it to provide a stable platform.
The problem with the cardbus slot being unusable, along with the
messages appended to kern.log once a second, persist
If this is not assigned to anyone after a week or so, I am going to
revert to another distro or an earlier version. I can't keep tying up
this laptop for a problem no one is willing to investigate!
