I am also experiencing this issue. I downloaded the source network-
manager-openvpn_0.8~a~git.20090928t200041.5576f56.orig.tar.gz, extracted
it, built it, and installed it. The result seems tho same, the issue
still seems present. Is my procedure incorrect? I'd be happy to help
test the patch a

I can confirm this is a general problem for all IPv4 dialogues such as
this one. Starting from the console doesn't really give any useful
information, aside from some debugging about connecting to a network,
when I configure the VPN I just get:
