In the more current ubiquity we have the prepare page which warns about
available disk-space. Of course that does not guarantee that side-by-
side install will be available, but the title should be correct: "this
computer has Windows on it, what do you want to do?". Is this
sufficient?

unreliable, and it wasn't recommended as a permanent Ubuntu install

For that four primary partitions case, Evan Dandrea is working on
replacing "Install Ubuntu alongside Windows" with "Install Ubuntu inside
Windows" that would restart the computer into Wubi.
However, this bug report is not about primary partitions, it is about
having not enough disk space.

Also ran into this on an HP 620 laptop that shipped with 4 primary partitions.
*I* saw the issue and laughed at HP's partition layout, but the student who
came to me had no idea why it wouldn't let her do a dual-boot install.
