Public bug reported:

Running the karmic kernel under KVM with virtio disk (/dev/vda) causes
error messages to be sent to the console whenever the disk is accessed.
See dmesg.txt for the messages.  Sample:

[ 3651.003060] end_request: I/O error, dev vda, sector 0

These messages are not created after changing the disk definition of dev
& bus from (vda & virtio) to (hda & ide).
