@SJR:
ifdown/ifup works for me, crude hack as it may be.
I could find no docs for your suggestion, could you please clarify?

I'm not sure that's the right solution, it's probably safe, but not
definitely safe.
Another option would be to also add "and net-device-up lo" to the start
on stanza, to ensure the ordering is as expected

@sh:
It used to work fine in Jaunty and even now it's not wlan being special:
wpa_supplicant is started correctly, but not dhcp. Either I run it
manually (and it works) or I run ifdown/ifup.

@aboaboit:
I think this is something different, wondering if auto wlan0 + allow-
hotplug wlan0 really works well together...hmmm

@aboaboit:
could you also paste the contents of /var/run/network/ifstate if there is any?
If not, just boot up the system, and manually execute ifup -a
check if /var/run/network exists before you call ifup

I have a statically configured USB wifi interface which requires manual
ifdown/ifup, even with the patch applied.

Bugs,
I tried Stephan's patch and my machine boots and the network comes up.
Since this seems to be a race condition, it usually does that anyway,
but at least the patch doesn't seem to break anything seriously. Thanks,
Stephan.
