HI,
I too have similar king of problem. I did a USB boot stick and tried the
ubuntu 9.10 beta. As soon I chose the option, it did some thing and the
desktop appeared. However, it was a total freeze !. Neither

Have you tried making a USB boot stick? (in Ubuntu go to
system->administration->usb startup disc creator) this would narrow down
if it's a problem with your disc drive or the disc drive driver.
