Hi,
I had the same problem with my card (E506R), updating to a newer kernel fixed
the bug.
Does the fix will be added to the standard Ubuntu kernel ?

@madbiologist - Thank you for your comment. I know I can get a new
kernel from that PPA, or compile the latest v4l-dvb device drivers from
http://linuxtv.org/hg/v4l-dvb/ (and in fact, I've done that to fix this
problem), but sadly many people I know don't have the skills required to
the the same. T
@Giorgio - There is a PPA of kernel 2.6.33 available at
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/
Somewhat simpler than compiling the kernel yourself.
I could not find any evidence that the upstream kernel developers are
reviewing this for 2.6.32 as sometimes happens for some patches.

with Alexey's patch and Vink's packages the issue is fixed for me too
after I installed Vink's packages the only problem I have is that the
system wants to reinstall the kernel packages from official
repository... I think this is caused by the fact both Vink's and
officials packages have same name
Just to confirm, issue with dvb now fixed thanks to Alexey and Vink
(tested using Vink's custom kernel as above.
Question:
Will this patch be included in any further kernel upgrades, or do I have
to stay with this kernel version?
Regards

Hi Alexey,
Ok, I confirm that the issue is gone on my Pinnacle 310i Card with
Alexey's patch.
Jose,
You can test my custom package (using Alexey's patch), but it is unsafe
to trust package from "unknown source", because it's not a good security
practice:

Hi Alexey / Vink
This all looks very promising.
How to apply patch please?
(or please post links to Alexey's patched kernel)
Thanks
Jose

Hi Alexey,
Your patch seems fine for me:
- No more error messages on my mythfrontend.log
I will be able to confirm this when I will be back home.
For info, I've compiled a kernel package with this fix based on Ubuntu
2.6.31-17.54. I can post this package if someone else want to test the
fix.

Hi again,
As Ubuntu kernel 2.6.30-10 is the last working kernel for me, i dig in
the source code:
- It seems regressions comes from this patch:

So, I've attached a patch for 2.6.31-17.54 which disable some of these
changes.

Sorry people, its been a long day, . but my solution was something
else.
In preparation for downgrading the kernel I added the custom rules file,
as indicated by Vink. This was all that was needed to fix the card and
TV playback on my system. I attach it in a zip. It needs to go here ->

Good to know Jose :)
I tried to compile v4l-dvb from mercurial some time ago but it gave me
some errors and refused to compile. I'll try again in the next days and
maybe I'll only compile what I really need, instead of all modules.
Nonetheless, it would be nice if they solved the problem, not eve
Nice find Vink :)
I may have an alternative solution. One of two things:
EITHER:
I installed linux dvb tv from source.
I grabbed v4l-dvb-9defbd461e5f.tar.gz from linuxtv.org
(http://linuxtv.org/hg/v4l-dvb/archive/tip.tar.gz)
and did the .configure, make and sudo make install on it. I went a bit
I've downgraded to 2.6.30-020630-generic on my karmic:
- no more pops and clicks
- video seems fine now!
For info, I've found this kernel here:
You will have to create the file "/etc/udev/rules.d/50-udev.rules" according to
the procedure
Same problem here on MythTV:
- pops and clicks on sound
- degraded video with artifacts and "swirls"
The signal seems to be good... The card is Pinnacle PCTV 310i. On
2.6.28, everything was fine... Problem appears when upgrading to karmic.
I've also tried 2.6.32-9 ... same issue

Well, I have to take back my too optimistic comment. It worked perfect -
channel tunning, watching, recording, scheduled recording was working
fine both in myth and vlc. However, after (several?) restart i got

working at all. I r
No Jose, sadly you're not alone :(
At first I thought it was an mplayer problem, so I compiled it from svn
but I get the same behaviour. I googled around, and it seems this
problem is present in other distros too and it only affects kernel
2.6.31 . Let's hope it'll get fixed as soon as possible. A
Ah good, Giorgio, I was beginning to think I was the only one with a
problem like this.
I have tested dvb transmissions with VLC as well (in case it was an
mplayer thing) and get the same video artifacts and audio pops and
clicks.

Hi Karel, thanks for your help but unfortunately I don't think it's a
firmware problem. I had installed the firmware to /lib/firmware, and

Hi again,
Placing the firmware image manually to /usr/firmware (as described here:
http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-241431.html) solved the
firmware load issue for me. Now I can correctly scan for channels with
the scan command (kaffeine doesn't work, it displays the DVB device but

Hi,
Same problem here, on Kaffeine the channel scan shows signal and SNR but
doesn't find any channels. The card is Pinnacle PCTV 310i, and has been
working fine till Karmic. Below's the output of dmesg and lspci for if
it's of any help:

I can also confirm this bug on Karmic 9.10.
Good signal, but pops and clicks on sound and degraded video with
artifacts and "swirls". Also only gives sound to one speaker when webcam
(USB) plugged in?
Works fine on Jaunty and has done since Hardy.
