Update: I have tested with the same ipod on the same (now fully updated
Karmic) PC and it does automount is recognized as an ipod etc. Thanks!

This looks similar to a recent fix in brasero. Do you have libbrasero-
media 2.28.1-0ubuntu1 installed? Can you please upgrade your system to
current karmic (you seem to run beta) and check again?
