Remarkable. In the 21st century a backup would be located anywhere -
mine is on a backup drive and I, too had the heck scared out of me. All

I stored my backup file in:
/media/disk/Ubuntu Backup/Mail/evolution-backup.tar.gz
The space in the Ubuntu Backup folder being the initial problem.

Same here copied it to the desktop and it worked fine. Maybe we should
all learn a lesson and stop using capitals and spaces on our file
systems like the old days.

I had the same problem after doing a fresh install of 9.10 and it scared
the out of me. Thankfully it worked fine after I copied it to the
desktop . This needs to get fixed fast.

I copied my backup to the desktop and it restored from there ok.
Earlier version used to restore ok from directory with space in name.
