Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gdm
Upgraded from Ubuntu 8.10 to Jaunty via Synaptic automatic upgrade. Not able even to login: the system generates "5" in the login window every second, so, I am not able to write the password within this interval between two generated "5"-s, the result is "Wrong password". I had the same problem when I upgraded from Ubuntu 6 to Ubuntu 8.04; then there has appeared Ubuntu 8.10, to which I've upgraded and which was free from this problem. 8.10 ---> 9.04 has given birth to it again. To overcome this problem I've added into the /boot/grub/menu.lst after the line ## ## End Default Options (I've inserted "root (hd1,0)" in 2nd line ## the following: title Ubuntu 8.15, kernel 2.6.28-15-generic root (hd1,0) uuid c2970882-feee-4b3b-9ea5-80b3148f1356 kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.28-15-generic root=UUID=c2970882-feee-4b3b-9ea5-80b3148f1356 ro quiet splash initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.28-15-generic savedefault quiet title Ubuntu 8.14, kernel 2.6.27-14-generic root (hd1,0) uuid c2970882-feee-4b3b-9ea5-80b3148f1356 kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.27-14-generic root=UUID=c2970882-feee-4b3b-9ea5-80b3148f1356 ro quiet splash initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.27-14-generic savedefault quiet and was forced to choose booting from second line (Ubuntu 8.14, kernel 2.6.27-14-generic). Then I was able to login, but I've got next problem "HPLIP Status Service fails - no system tray detected" What should be done?
