I'm affected too. This still happens on the final Karmick on 2.6.31-14-generic I've checked and the snd_hda_intel module is loaded, but my device is recognized as Internal Audio Output. This used to work on jaunty aplay -l List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices card 0: Intel [HDA Intel],
